Bharath Krishna Rao Potluri is the Co-Founder & CEO of Emobi, a visionary leader with a rich background in diverse industries specifically Renewable Energy. Having initially played a pivotal role in the family business at United Telecoms Ltd., he led its expansion into renewable energy generation assets, overseeing 100MW of wind assets in Madhya Pradesh and 10MW of solar assets in Orissa and Karnataka.
Having spent his formative years in Grid-Connected Renewable Energy during its nascency as an industry where Independent Power Producers (IPP) build exclusively Renewable Energy based generation assets, as grid connected renewable energy in an IPP model reached maturity he identified the clear lack of technology know-how and scale of manufacturing requirements of Energy Storage Products required to transition to a future powered by Renewable Energy for all our energy needs.
Driven by the need for energy storage solutions, Bharath has passionately pursued building core competency on key technological pieces required to enable the transition to a Renewable Energy Based Future. With a focus on energy storage and energy consumption applications, particularly in electric vehicles, consumer products, chargers, inverters, and energy storage itself. He firmly believes in the crucial role of energy storage in transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources.
Bharath's association with Dr. Sathya Prasad and their combined expertise in renewable energy generation, lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing, application engineering has enabled Emobi to develop cutting-edge products and services, positioning the company for global competitiveness. His commitment to innovation and sustainability continues to drive Emobi's success in the energy storage industry.
Bharath also currently serves on the board of the holding company of Karbonn Mobiles and its manufacturing subsidiaries.
Reforms and incentives are attracting international investors looking to diversify away from China amid its intensifying rivalry with the US. But India still has a way to go - on trade ties, education and infrastructure, among others - if it wants to catch up to its giant northern neighbour
The dialogue with Bharath Rao, Co-Founder & CEO of Emobi, sheds light on the burgeoning transition towards electric vehicles (EVs) in the realm of last-mile delivery (LMD). This pivot not only marks a significant stride towards environmental sustainability but also heralds a new era of cost-efficiency and operational effectiveness in logistics. With an increasing global consciousness towards sustainable living, the inclination towards electric mobility solutions has seen a remarkable uptick. Survey data indicating a substantial majority's readiness to embrace e-mobility, with a particular emphasis on electric office transportation, underscores the paradigm shift in societal attitudes and preferences.
A Bengaluru-based startup, Emobi, intends to enter the diverse segments of electric vehicles, including last-mile delivery, passenger transport, utility vehicles, and personal commuting in collaboration with various prominent players in the segment.
Especially two-wheelers, have become more popular in India in the past few years. Last year, over 15 lakh EVs, spanning across segments were sold. Thus, witnessing a growth of more than 48 percent compared to 2022 when around 10 lakh units were sold. Despite a notable overall growth in EV sales, there was a temporary slowdown specifically in electric two-wheeler sales around mid-2023.
The auto industry has undergone an extreme transformation driven by technology, particularly software innovations that elevated safety, sustainability, connectivity, and the overall user experience. Advancements in the field of EVs, autonomous driving, and software updates have revolutionised and enhanced the vehicle&s performance, and improved vehicle design, manufacturing, and operational services. The integration of advanced technologies like human-machine Interface has redefined user interaction, all accessible remotely.
This budget is especially significant for the enterprise and technology sectors, poised at the forefront of India&s economic growth. There is a keen anticipation for initiatives that could stimulate these sectors, focusing on the integration of cutting-edge technologies, attracting foreign investments, and bolstering digital skills. Additionally, the creation of job opportunities and industry-specific insights are highly awaited. These measures are vital for enhancing India&s business ecosystem, offering a glimpse into the strategic direction the budget is expected to take.
In 2023, a total of 15,30,326 electric vehicles were registered across segments in India, compared to 10,25,134 units in 2022, which translates to a growth of 49.28 percent.
